Thousands of high-resolution numismatic image files require an extraodinary amount of computer storage. This photograph is of the fiber-optic switches and storage controllers in a 120 terabyte enterprise virtual storage array. The rear of one of the disk enclosures is visible at the top of the photo. To prevent data loss and guarantee continued availability all components of the storage array are duplicated including the data. Backups on high-density magnetic tapes are stored in multiple off-site locations.
